— How it works

Gauge market-rate pay for executives

The Executive Salary Calculator estimates market-rate total compensation for leadership roles in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Users select function, industry, company size and region — the calculator returns a range from the lower (P10) to the upper (P90) market values.

Behind it sits a parameter model of a base median and multipliers, calibrated monthly against salary histograms from the official Adzuna API and benchmarks from published compensation studies. Crucially, it is enriched with anonymized data points from real KxK mandates — especially in the upper segment that public sources barely capture.

Wide bands are shown deliberately rather than false precision: executive pay is case-specific. The calculator provides a solid orientation for pay ranges, budget planning and successions — and does not replace individual compensation advice.

Questions & answers

What does a managing director or CFO earn in Germany?

Total compensation for leadership roles depends heavily on function, industry, company size and region. The KxK Executive Salary Calculator deliberately shows wide bands (P10 to P90) because executive packages are case-specific. As a guide: a CFO in the mid-market sits in a six-figure total-compensation range depending on revenue class and region.

Which factors feed into the calculation?

The calculator combines four levers: function (CEO, CFO, COO, CTO, CSO, CHRO), industry, company size by revenue and region. A base median and multipliers produce the estimated total compensation of fixed salary plus target bonus.

Which data sources does the calculator use?

It is based on a parameter model calibrated monthly against salary histograms from the official Adzuna API (DE/AT) and benchmarks from published compensation studies, enriched with anonymized data points from KxK mandates.

Are long-term incentives included?

No. The figure shown is total compensation of fixed salary and short-term target bonus. Long-term incentives (LTI, e.g. equity programs) are deliberately excluded as they are highly company- and situation-specific. The calculator is not compensation, legal or tax advice.
